A Brief History

Sommers Plastics was founded in 1947 by Walter Sommers. Former colleague Herman Schecter was hired as his partner to assist with shipping, receiving, billing, and bookkeeping. The business continued to grow and upon accepting a new role, Sommers sold the business in July 1948 to Schecter.
Throughout the 50s, Sommers Plastics began to introduce and trademark new products like Roller Patent and Marshmallow. These imitation leathers took the industry by storm and still maintain their popularity today.
Herman's sons, Fred and Ed, continue to manage Sommers Plastics out of Clifton, NJ.
